Papers of Virginia Randolph, 1929-1993.

The Virginia Randolph papers contain a book of poetry by Randolph, a newspaper clipping written by Randolph, the autobiography of Randolph's grandmother, Ella Cripliver, and reminiscences by Randolph about her aunt, Elizabeth Wherry. Photocopies of several of Elizabeth Wherry's columns, Wherry's obituary, and a photograph of Wherry are also included.

Elizabeth Wherry, author, columnist, farm wife, editor, and sorority house mother, was born Jan. 29, 1893 to Jacob and Ella Cripliver in Tipton, Iowa. Wherry was widely recognized as an Iowa writer whose chief subjects were rural life and farming. She gave other farm women advice on how to cope with the isolation and hard work in order to live more graciously.
